Having Your Credit Consolidated Can Help Reduce Debt

In debt? If so, you are not alone in your struggles. There are millions of people who are overwhelmed with debt that they cannot seem to get rid of. One way to assist you in this process is by having your credit consolidated. This means putting all your credit card bills together into one lump sum. There are a few ways this can help you save and also help you pay off your debt quicker. In this article we will examine this debt reduction strategy.

One way to consolidate your bills is with a loan. A consolidation loan is given for the amount you owe, then you use the money to pay all your creditors. This leaves you with one payment to make to your lender and may improve your credit especially if you make payments to the lender on time. Not only are your bad debts taken care of, you are building good credit by paying off your consolidation loan off on time. Make sure you are not late as this may be reported negatively on your credit report. And, it is important to pay the full amount as agreed upon.

Credit Consolidation

Another way is with consolidation credit counseling. This involves going to an agency like Consumer Credit Counseling, a Christian non profit debt relief agency or a government approved debt relief company. These are the only ones you should deal with so you do not get scammed. You can get a list by state from the U.S. Department of Justice, Department of Trustees websites. There are many different choices. These companies will consolidate your bills leaving you with a single payment to be made to them, which is distributed among your creditors. After your debt is paid consider obtaining credit counseling to help you learn how to avoid getting back into the same mess and how to establish favorable credit.

Having your credit consolidated can reduce the amount you are paying each month. If your debt is all credit cards, consider transferring all your balances to a single low-interest card if you are able to do so. If you are dealing with student loan debt, you can consolidate your loans once but not through a debt relief company, you will need to go through the Department of Education. If you have questions about consolidating student loans, speak with your financial aid advisor.
